A rare view of Grant. He is posed in his major general’s frock with one hand at his waist and his other hand resting on the chair to his side. There is no photographer’s imprint, but it’s believed Grant posed for this image in Memphis in 1862. On the reverse is written “Maj Genl U. S. Grant” in period ink. Very good condition with slightly trimmed corners. There is a black spot along the bottom edge of the albumen which may be a fingerprint or other error in the production of the albumen—it does not disrupt the surface of the albumen. Measures about 2 1/2” x 4”.
