This CDV of two Union officers was part of an album of 20th Ohio members. On the left is Lieut. Colonel John Christian Fry. The man on the right is Lieutenant Peter M. Hitchcock, who was the regimental quartermaster. The 20th Ohio served in the western theater, participating in many battles including Fort Donelson, Shiloh, Vicksburg, and Atlanta. There is no photographer’s backmark. This image appears in Roger Hunt’s Colonels in Blue: Michigan, Ohio and West Virginia (p. 54). Excellent condition with only slightly trimmed corners. Measures about 2 1/2” x 4”.
