Item No. 2000030

A very rare CDV view of Lovell General Hospital, a U.S. Army hospital near Newport, Rhode Island. In service from July 1862 to August 1865, thousands of sick and wounded men were treated at Lovell, including many men convicted by court martial and confederate prisoners of war. In this CDV by Newport photographer Joshua A. Williams, many buildings of the camp can be seen with several members of an army brass band in the foreground. The carte is in excellent condition as shown. It measures about 4” x 2 1/2”. Williams’s backmark is on the reverse.
