Item No. 2671648

A nice CDV view of a Union officer who appears he could have been John Bell Hood’s lost brother. This is Colonel Francis Lowell Lee of the 44th Massachusetts, a 9-month regiment that served in North Carolina in 1863. The Colonel is seated and wears a double-breasted frock coat with sword and belt. His forage cap, featuring an infantry horn insignia with number 44 at the center, rests upon his knee. A very attractive image in very good condition with just some light toning and foxing. Measures about 2 1/2” x 4”. There is a note in pencil written on the reverse that identifies Lee. The backmark is that of Boston photographer J. E. Tilton & Co.
