CDV of 15th Corps Iowa Soldier with Sister — Zouave Uniform — 4th Iowa?
CDV of 15th Corps Iowa Soldier with Sister — Zouave Uniform — 4th Iowa?
Item No. 4730537
A young soldier returned from war poses with a younger girl—perhaps his sister—in this late-war CDV image by photographer P. Olmsted of Davenport, Iowa. The man wears a Zouave-style uniform with the distinctive “40 Rounds” badge of the 15th Corps on his uniform jacket. There is no identification. While the 28th Iowa was noted for their Zouave uniforms, that unit never served in the 15th Corps. The 4th Iowa is known to have been issued Zouave uniforms later in the war, so perhaps the man hails from that storied regiment. On the reverse is Olmsted’s imprint under a 2-cent revenue stamp. Measures about 2 1/2” x 4”. There is a 1/8” hole through the carte at the top-center.
