Item No. 5557698
Pictured in this unmounted and uncredited albumen image is a Union Army encampment situated among bare chimneys—the ruins of a burned-out house or houses. The camp consists entirely of wall tents. A handful of soldiers and civilians pose casually at center. Four saddled horses are hitched near a tent in the background. At the right near a chimney, four obscured men can be seen, while at the lower right a camp guard takes in the scene. At the far left of the image, a number of soldiers can be seen standing and sitting. There are no markings to indicate where or when the image was made, but the scene has the appearance of a headquarters camp. Measures about 8" x 4 3/8". Very light creasing. Unmounted.
