A lovely 3 3/8” black cockade with a 1 3/4” star device at its center. Although often thought of as a mourning object due to its color, black was the official color of cockade to be worn on many pre-Civil War army and militia uniforms. This one likely was for a particular militia organization. The star device is attached to the ribbon through five wire loops. Really a lovely original pairing. Excellent condition with some fraying to the ribbon around the edges.
