This large 5” x 7” tintype image was produced when the photographer made a new image of an existing photograph. This was often done when the soldier pictured died in the service as a method of memorialization. The young soldier in the tintype wears a frock coat with his full leather kit. At his side he holds a rifle with a large saber bayonet attached. The image is a bit on the dark side and has remnants on the reverse from previous sealing. Measures about 5” x 7”, which is larger than a half plate.
