Offered here is an interesting stereoview. The image features Fort Lafayette, which used to be a fixture in New York Harbor. Completed in 1822 and named after the Marquis de Lafayette, hero of the American and French Revolutions, the Fort served as a prison for Confederate officers and anti-administration political prisoners during the Civil War. It was demolished in 1960 to make room for the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge. The reverse features a 2-cent stamp, a stamp for "McAllister / Optician / 627 Broadway / New York," and a pencil inscription identifying the subject.

The image measures about 6 3/4" x 3 1/4" and is in very good condition as shown.
