CDV of General Winfield Scott Hancock
CDV of General Winfield Scott Hancock
Item No. 8862646
Featured in this CDV image is Union General Winfield Scott Hancock, most famous for holding the center at Gettysburg, where he was severely wounded as commander of the 2nd Corps. Hancock appears in a bust view with a cape draped over his shoulder. At the base of the mount is the imprint of photographer Benjamin Gurney of New York. This mark and address were used after 1874, so while it is a Civil War pose, the carte was most likely produced in 1880 when Hancock was the Democratic nominee for president—an election won by Republican James Garfield. Measures about 2 1/2” x 4”.
