The officer featured in this CDV image is Union Brigadier General Henry Prince. A veteran of the Seminole War, Prince served in the 4th US Infantry during the Mexican War, and was severely wounded at Molino del Rey. Prince served primarily as a paymaster after returning from Mexico. In the Civil War he served in various combat roles, and was captured in 1862 at the Battle of Cedar Mountain. This unmarked carte features Prince in a seated pose. The mount has been trimmed very close to the albumen edge. Measures about 2 1/4” x 3 1/2”.
