Nice CDV view of Union General Samuel P. Heintzelman. The reverse features the backmark of E. Anthony of New York with credit to Mathew Brady's negative. Measures 2 3/8" x 3 7/8".

Heintzelman served admirably as commander of the 3rd Corps during the Peninsula and Second Bull Run campaigns, but with high command shuffling in late 1862 he was transferred to the Department of Washington, where he spent the rest of the war in charge of the capital's defenses.
