Unusual Cabinet Card of General Robert Anderson, the "Hero of Fort Sumter"

$70.00

Item No. 6118260

The “Hero of Fort Sumter” is the subject of this unusual cabinet card. In early 1861 General Robert Anderson—then a major—held Fort Sumter in Charleston Harbor and endured the Confederate bombardment that marked the beginning of the Civil War. There is no artist’s imprint. The albumen was mounted to the back of a portion of a print depicting a fort under bombardment from Union Navy vessels, possibly Fort Sumter in 1863. Excellent condition. Measures about 4 1/4” x 6 1/4”.
