A 3 1/2” x 2 1/4” card signed by Union General Oliver O. Howard. It was Howard’s 11th Corps that had been routed at the Battle of Chancellorsville, and two months later was roughly handled at the Battle of Gettysburg. Howard’s reputation grew once he and his troops were transferred to the western theater, where they distinghished themselves at Chattanooga, the battles for Atlanta, and the March to the Sea. Signed “Oliver O. Howard / Maj. Gen. U.S. Army / Governor’s Island / N.Y. City.” Lightly toned. The reverse is blank.
